East Grinstead Town started slowly, but ended the tournament in style with 4 wins out of eight games, unfortuantely they failed to progess from the group stages by goal diference. The East Grinstead Colts had a tough group and lost their first few games, their lack of goals cost them points. Going into the last game they weree yet to score, and they faced Tonbridge Angels, but the Colts managed to score via Jack Leslie managing to achieve a spectacular 1-1 draw. The next tournament is on the 18th of June at Brockham. The players in each team will stay the same except the Colts will be joined by David Watts who will be returning from a broken hand.

Copthorne 6-a-side   tournament:21/8/05

The Colts played their first pre-season matches together at the Copthorne 6-a-side tournament. Although only 7 players were available they gave it their best, they had to play 6 games after one team failed to get a team together. The first match came against local rivals Ashurst Wood, both teams played to their best but neither team could produce a goal leaving the Colts quite happy with their first result. The next couple of games were not so good, losing 2-0 in both. They still fought on though and tried to win, and even though a draw in the next match should have been a good result, but without the Colts scoring at all so far they realized a lot more was needed to get through to the knockout stages. Despite doing all they could, neither could they score or get through to the knockout stages, but all in all it was a reasonable effort for a team who were playing their first games together since last season. Local rivals Ashurst Wood also failed to make the knockouts, but the tournament is now in the past for both teams as they look forward to their first 11-a-side match of the new season, as they play each other in a pre-season friendly, both teams are hungry for a win, but can the Colts end their goal drought and win for the first time in an 11-a-side match against Ashurst Wood…All will be revealed next week when I give you a full update of the Ashurst Wood game.

Awards Ceremony:7/9/05

Yesterday evening the Colts finished their training early for their awards ceremony. Every player received an award and had a short speech read out by the manager about how they played last season. But one special award was not given out till the end. The award everyone was after, Manager’s Player of the Year. No.10 was the favorite to win after a good season, but everyone was shocked when no.14 took the award! He accepted the cup with his name carved in and a special trophy he could keep. Everyone was pleased with their awards and all those desperate to win the Managers Player of the Year award have got this season to look forward to. Who do you think will win?
